

Born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 30, 1927, she was the daughter of Robert and Rachel Hughes. In 1945 she married Sidney Arthur Solley and emigrated to Canada as a War Bride.
She was Director of Christian Education of the United Church of Canada in Winnipeg and was a social worker in Montreal at the Children’s Adoption Service.
Sarah was a great lover of art and literature and in the 1980’s opened a bookshop and gallery in Morin Heights, Quebec with her husband Sid. She supported upcoming artists and musicians and was one of the founders of Theatre Morin Heights, which still flourishes today. She also wrote and published a very successful community cook book.
In Riverport Nova Scotia she was very active in the local Garden Club and the Rug Hooking Club where she organised exhibitions. After Sid died Sarah moved to Halifax.
In Halifax Halifax she volunteered at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and met her second husband Dr. Howard Parker. Sarah and Howard spent many happy years in Wolfville where Sarah sat on several local committees related to continuing education and the foundation of a community care centre.
She is survived by her two daughters, Helen Trollope of Linton, Cambridge, Pat Martin of Falmouth, Cornwall, son Jim Solley of Naramata BC and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family extends great thanks to all the staff and caregivers at Evan Hall, Clayton Park for their compassionate care.
No service by request. The family will take her ashes to Scotland.
