Gertrude and Ray - I am so sorry to read about your son.   Our grandson’s name is Oliver which had me thinking of you and wondering if you are still in NS.   I came across this and my heart was broken for you - I remember when you were pregnant with him.   Just wanted to let you know you are in my thoughts and prayers - take care of each other.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I met Scott when he was a Gunner and I took every opportunity to chat with him I could. He was such a caring, passionate, intelligent human. 
He helped to make our tour in Afghanistan (his second) bearable and I will never forget our time in Cyprus.

Scott, I remember when I first met you in 2004. You always had an easygoing attitude toward life and work, and you never took things too seriously. When I first joined the artillery, I was unprepared for the military or any real responsibility. Thanks to you, I learned what it meant to be a gunner. My first impressions of Scott  occurred on summer afternoon a few years ago,  on the water, where I listened to him detail some of his experiences in  Afghanistan. Pride and passion for his role there was second to none. May his family and friends find some comfort in reflecting on fond memories.

Everyone has that person in their life who you know you can call when you need a hand, or the shirt off their back. That’s Scott. That’s the type of friend Scootie has been…. Since moment one. Solid, loyal and present,  ready to ride or die and have your back no matter what.

The bond we had within our group had no boundaries. It’s lasted the test of time and distance for over 25 years. There are far too many stories and moments of laughter when we talk about Scootie. Every story leads to “Remember when Scootie….. and ended with “OMG Scott”…. And we laugh. 

A leader of men. He served his country with distinction, in a hell that only few of us have experienced. Scott did it with a smile, never complained about anything, and often embraced “the suck” that strengthens you as a soldier and bonds you to your comrades. Scott had this, and set such a positive example of leadership for so many. 

You will be missed brother, our group has a gap now that can never be replaced. Your memory will remain within us all. 

I am a better person for having you in my life. 

A joke my father used to tell me was that parents had children in sets of three. Being extremely young I believed I had sets of siblings out there I hadn't met yet. 

Scott gave not only me but many others that sense of brotherly love, the one that teases and jokes, but also guides, teaches and cares. 

He was held in high regard by everyone that met him.  it was an immense pleasure to know him and call him friend.

To have a best friend in life is a blessing. To have 7 is a lottery win.  

Anyone who knows me well will know that I walk around with 7 pieces of my heart that belong to some very special people. 

Those friendships have been in my life for 27 years or more and have completely shaped who I am as a person. 

One of those heart spots has been broken this week with the loss of one the best humans I have ever known. 

He was as solid as they come. An utter gem of a human and a constant for all of us in that friend group. His loss can’t be quantified. 

I got the most ridiculous, true to character text from him a week or so ago, and it will remain for me, one that will always make me laugh.. at his quirks and nonsense and his incredible ability to make you think. 

Scooties, my dude. You are loved so deeply. Thank you  for always being there- through all of it. I couldn’t have ever asked for better.

Im remembering his drawings in art class. He was so very talented. Even more kind. We laughed alot.  I'm sure he touched many lives since 98:)  very very sad. Sincere heartfelt condolences.
