

Born in Halifax on September 16, 1928, she was the daughter of Guy and Margaret (Hurdis) Sadler. She worked for Mills Brothers, Clayton & Sons, Simpson-Sears and later, Dartmouth Continuing Education. She enjoyed special times with family and friends at the Sadler family camp in Glen Margaret. In 1950 she married Albert Bell and together they raised a daughter and son. She was a devoted and caring homemaker, mother and grandmother, known for her fondness of shopping trips. Shirley had a special talent for needlepoint and crewel embroidery; her work won national competitions. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching embroidery classes, where she developed a loyal following and made many friends.
Shirley is survived by daughter Linda (Wayne) Barton of Cole Harbour; son Gerald of Toronto; granddaughter Andrea (Ryan) Fehst of Shearwater; and Grandson Jeff (Veronique) Barton of Eastern Passage. She was predeceased by her husband Albert, brother Roy and twin brother Charles. Cremation has taken place, visitation will take place on June 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. both from J.A. Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Dr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
