

It is with deep sadness that the family of Simon Edward Mombourquette announces his passing on October 23, 2017 Born in West L’Ardoise, Cape Breton. He was a son of the late Charlie and Annie Mae (Briand) Mombourquette.
Sam will be missed by his loving, devoted wife, Elaine (Gillis) of 55 years, as well as children, Steven (Anne), Paul (Claude), Simone (Terry). Sam will be fondly missed by his three beautiful grandchildren, Cameron, Katie and Vivienne. Sam was predeceased by his treasured daughter Suzette in 2005, and infant sister, Marie. He also cherished his relationship with his brother, Alexander (Mary) dec.; also his sisters; Joan (Bob Gore) and Annette (Jerome dec.).
Sam started his career with the CBC in Halifax in 1960, for a period of seven years. He then joined the Public Service of Canada where he served for 28 years in Halifax, Ottawa and Charlottetown, retiring in 1995.
After his retirement he spent 15 years enjoying the game of golf, gardening, carpentry, watching his beloved Habs and The Toronto Blue Jays. His most enjoyable times were preparing and hosting family dinners, always to be found at the head of the table.
On behalf of the family we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to the many hardworking and compassionate staff on Schooner Landing (Northwood Ivany Place). Also a warm thanks to the wonderful staff at Northwood homecare, your kindness and love shown to Sam will forever be remembered.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Sunday, October 29, from 2-5 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral Mass Monday, October 30 at 2 pm. from St. Ignatius Catholic Church 1288 Bedford Highway.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the QEII Foundation in support of Parkinson’s disease or Northwood Ivany Place.
