Sonya Marie McCarthy passed away October 21st, 2024, surrounded by her three children who loved her deeply.
Sonya radiated kindness, warmth, and a zest for life wherever she went and with whomever she spent time with.
Her goals in life were to “experience life to the fullest, love deeply and make the biggest, most positive impact on the planet and people worldwide”. She certainly achieved those goals. Through her boundless enthusiasm, positivity, and love, she impacted people all over the world. She did this through volunteering with multiple organizations, planning fundraising events for non-profit charities she believed in, and investing in the lives of many.
She had a special place in her heart for her three children and four grandchildren. She was so proud of them all and their accomplishments. She loved being a mother and grandmother.
She will be missed and remembered with love by her children and their families: daughter Teresa (Bate) Klassen, son-in-law Daryl Klassen, and their children Owen and Olivia Klassen; her son Geoff Bate, his partner Lisa Grube, and their children Layla and Ivy Bate; her son Chris Bate and his partner Ashleigh Watson. She is survived by her siblings and their families: Beverly Gibson, Donnie McCarthy, Brian McCarthy and wife Judy McCarthy, Karen Comeau and husband Gary Comeau, and Patrick McCarthy and wife Sheri McCarthy, along with several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins, her partner, Willis Comeau, and a world full of friends.
For those inquiring on how to bless the family financially towards celebration of life and family travel expenses, monetary gifts can be sent via e-transfer to [email protected].
In her memory, do an act of kindness, make someone laugh, send a card, give a hug, or say “I love you”—she would love that.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Sonya November 4th, 2024 at Fairview Legion 50 Hillcrest street, Halifax, in the lounge upstairs from 2pm – 4pm. Please bring your favorite stories and memories of Sonya to share.
A celebration of life will also take place in Whistler on Saturday November 30, from 2-4pm in the Whistler Community Church.
We will love you forever Momma.
