I am so very sad that my friend Sonya is gone. We talked so often on the phone when she was in Nova Scotia and I was in Whistler, and she was always so positive that I didn't realize how serious her illness was. Her last words to me on the phone were "I love you", and I didn't realize it was "Goodbye".

We had been friends since 1980 when she worked for Ted and Jan at Whistler's first deli, and we just hit it off, her family and mine. It was her infectious laugh and energy and her love of organizing an event to help children, always to help the children of Whistler. I remember the old information trailer on the highway at Creekside wrapped in a pink ribbon when Teresa was born.
I shall miss you so much my friend.

Sonya you were like my second mom growing up. I spent almost as much time with you as I did with my own mom. You made my young life fun and exciting, always taking me on your adventures with Teresa. Thank you for always being there when I needed you.

So hard to find the words,  it's not goodbye  it's till we meet again. Just sing a song n smile with your bright pearly teeth that sparkle and we will find you thru the clouds up in heaven.  Thou hearts are heavy n shared tears are many  for All those whose lives you touched with that special Sonya style  Grace n Ka Boom.Especially for Teresa, Geoffrey n Christopher and their Families. Your  Mum is only a Heartbeat away.  Everytime we think of your Mum, Sonya  she lights  the path with her smile from upstairs. Always love you to the moon n back ditto, n as you said Sonya, we made it to be Grannys,  good ones too, You Bet Ya.!  Thankyou for your time shared on this Earth, n being an icon for Todd  n Nicholas who admired you so much  my Beautiful Kindered Spirit Always.

Sonya was an incredible inspiration to many.  I remember having a video chat one sunny morning and asking for some advice. She had the most simple yet profound thing to say with a smile, "Just be yourself.", the same inspirational memory I had of her when I was younger. I remember many community Whistler events thanks to Sonya. Along with her advice, she provided me with exactly who to speak with, "Just tell them Sonya sent you". 

 I'll always remember you for that inspiration Sonya, and I know everyone else will too.  Sincere condolences to Teresa, Chris & Geoff, your mum will always be with us in spirit.

We are so broken that we lost our beautiful sister, mother and grandmother . She adored our dad who gave her the music and singing ability and our mom that gave her the kindness and heart that gave her the love for all in her world. She will be missed by the family of brothers, sisters and mostly her own children and  her beautiful grandchildren. Hard to say good bye to such a beautiful out going sister but she will be with mom, dad and all of the relatives and people she truly loved.

We send our love, sympathy, and condolences to you. We were praying for you at our church meeting this morning and we will continue to pray for you. Your mother was a loving, kind hearted, wonderful lady who contributed so much to Whistler in so many ways. We will remember our chats with her at church and how her laugh warmed us. I was so sorry and shocked to hear of Sonya's passing. I contacted her on FB a few times.  I  met Sonya back in 1982 and I marvelled at how she devoted herself to the community.  She was alway volunteering her time and would help anyone in a difficult situation.   She was one of the good ones and will be missed. My condolences to the family.  Gone too soon!  The universe has better plans for you Sonya.

Dear Teresa, Chris, Geoff and families and to all my McCarthy cousins and families I would like to extend my deepest condolences on the loss of our beautiful, kind, strong and vivacious Sonya who will be missed by so many, Sonya touched the hearts of everyone she met because of her beautiful soul. 
I am so happy I got to visit with her before her surgery so I can remember how she was on that day, her lovely smiling and welcoming face that I love.

So sorry & sad to hear that your wonderful mother, grandmother, sister & my lovely cousin Sonya has passed. My thoughts are with all of you.

Judy and Brian and to all of Sonya's family and friends I send my deepest condolences. My heart was broken as Judy kept me up-to-date but all our prayers...God does answer prayers with "Yes, no, and maybe" and when one prays for what is best for all sometimes the answer is not exactly what we want. I am so very, very sorry the outcome was not what we wanted. God and Sonya had other plans even though she fought. Sometimes we are too broken to fix.  
Sonya was only a year younger than I am. I had so hoped to meet her here as I have recently moved permanently near the home she chose a while back. I regret that I did not meet her summers when I was here as I came 4-6 months a year after my husband died.  
Everything humanly possible was tried. Sonya must have been, in the end, ready and she now has some peace. It will take some time for the rest of you to feel that peace. I hope you have moments of it now. The moments will get longer with time. You will never ever forget but it will get easier - at least it did for me. 
Do not feel guilty. Try to live as you would have wanted Sonya to live if you had gone before her.
