Steven Wadih Metlege, age 86 of Halifax, passed away on August 29, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Diman, Lebanon, Steven devoted his life to his faith, family and community. He came to Nova Scotia in 1956 as a hard working young man with a love of God, family, and a pioneer’s spirit.
Steven married the love of his life, Houda, and with God and hard work they built their lives and family together rarely leaving each other’s sides. Steven was a visionary, constantly planning his next project. He loved to be at the job site watching cement, concrete, mortar, and bricks grow into homes, community centres, and places of worship. His greatest vision and joy, however, was watching his family grow and keeping them close to him.
Steven never missed a milestone and would have all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren over for lunch every Sunday after mass. He took great pleasure in the loud banter and conversations that would undoubtedly take place having raised such a strong, confident, and passionate family. Steven’s smile and optimism were infectious. His strength and confidence in life and God will guide all those who loved him through this difficult time.
Steven is survived by his wife of 54 years, Houda; son, Steven (Diana); daughters, The Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, QC, Ellen, Mona (Joseph Francis), Susan (Sayed Arab), Mally; brothers, Anthony, Andrew; sisters, Nabett Ahmar, Susan Bassil; 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Wadih and Esther and brother, Joseph.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 30th, and Friday, August 31st, from 3 pm - 7 pm on both days at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, on Saturday, Sept 1, 2018, at 11:30 am. Bishop Paul Marwan Tabet will be officiating.
