

Susan Elizabeth Millard, 63. Susan E. Millard died suddenly on Monday, January 24, as a result of a car/pedestrian accident on Coburg Road in Halifax. Born in Truro, Susan was the daughter of the late John O. Millard and Jean (Byers) Millard.
She was educated in Truro Schools and graduated from the Halifax Ladies College and later from Neu Chatel School in Switzerland before attending and graduating from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax .
Susan is survived by cousins Margaret Millard, White Point, Mary Millard, York Point, PEI, Arthur Millard, Ottawa, Marie Cooper of Truro, and her sons James William Cooper, Truro, and Stephen Murdock Cooper, Ottawa. She will be greatly missed by her god-daughter Ceri Owen, Dartmouth and honorary niece and nephews Andy MacLean, Halifax; Sarah MacLean Emery, Toronto and Isaac Smith, Waverley, and a wide circle of friends who will miss her caring presence in their lives.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, and by her two brothers Jock, a Chronicle Herald reporter, and Tommy, both of whom died of cystic fibrosis.
Susan worked as a legal secretary for the former Kitz Matheson law firm in Halifax, before joining the Atlantic Canada office of the Institute of Canadian Bankers in the mid 70s. She was Director of Administration at the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party Caucus Office during the late 1980s and 90s. For many years she coordinated the registration desk of Nova Scotia P.C. annual general meetings and was office coordinator for many provincial and federal party campaigns locally and provincially, most recently in the Bill Black and Ted Larsen campaigns.
A dedicated member of Saint Matthews United Church, where she has recently filled a term position as church secretary. Susan was also an avid supporter and patron of Symphony Nova Scotia.
There will be a reception on Friday, January 28, 2-5 p.m. in the lobby, Embassy Towers, 5959 Spring Garden Road, hosted by the residents of Embassy Towers. Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthews United Church, Halifax, Rev. Betsy Hogan officiating. Reception will follow. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in the family plot, Robie Street Cemetery, Truro, in the spring. Arrangements are under the direction of the J. A. Snow Funeral Home.
