It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Wendy Dawn Sibley, 53, shares that she passed away peacefully on December 16, in the company of her caregivers. Predeceased by her father Malcolm, Wendy is survived by her siblings Christine (Dan Hart), Peter (Julie McMullen), Denyse (Rob Robertson), Michelle (Donald Smith), Paul (Michelle Fraser), and Paula (Robert Fox), 13 nieces and nephews, two grandnephews, one grandniece and her mother, Joan.
Born June 28, 1968, Wendy dealt with many health challenges as a result of congenital rubella syndrome. Wendy did not attend school. In 1992, at the age of 23, she moved into a group home. Despite the lack formal education, she started working for Dartmouth Adult Service Centre (DASC) where she stayed for 24 years moving on to ALC in 2006. She made many friends during her employment with these organizations. She had several group home placements, however her most meaningful was at Wynncastle. If there are angels on this earth, they work at Wynncastle.
While Wendy’s disability limited her ability to communicate, it did not limit her enjoyment of the things many of us take for granted. She loved the feel of flowers on her face and enjoyed their feminine, soft, and sweet scent. She loved to visit the beach and the delicate scent of sea spray; the first breath of fresh coastal air brought much joy. Wendy loved the feel of warm water, and the feeling of weightlessness.
Wendy will be missed by her siblings and her Wynncastle family who loved her and made her part of their family.
The family wishes to thank to Dr. Laurie Mallery for her unwavering support and care for Wendy. Her calmness and reassurance over these past months have provided great comfort.
Cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to JA Snow Funeral Home. In light of the latest wave of the pandemic, there is no visitation, and a private family service will be held at the Meaghers Grant cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Wendy’s family invites donations to the Measles & Rubella Initiative (measlesrubellainitiative.org), which aims to eradicate congenital rubella syndrome and other conditions through worldwide vaccination programs or please donate to a charity of your choice. Friends and family are invited to share thoughts and memories at www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
