

Son of Lilian (Ashby) and William Allen Chaddock, he was born January 7th, 1941 and grew up in Jollimore, Halifax. He enjoyed playing ice hockey on the Frog Pond, figure skating and ballroom dancing with his sister Carol Ann at the MCM with Gunter Buchta, trout fishing and rabbit snaring at Harry, Williams and surrounding lakes with his father and neighbourhood friends, sailing on the Northwest Arm, water and downhill skiing, summers in Chezzetcook and gardening with his beloved mother and grandparents in Jollimore Village. He was Honour Student at J.W. MacLeod School, Junior Commodore of the Armdale Yacht Club, student then Junior Master at King’s College School, Windsor, and active as a young person in St. Augustine’s Chapel, Jollimore.
He had a lifelong passion for flying both in the air and on the sea. Bill was a well-respected skipper and crewmate of his father’s 50’ sloop Cyclone, racing the Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race several times. He also flew Cessnas and Beaver floatplanes. A long-time top scorer of Halifax’s gentlemen’s hockey league, Dad looked forward to Monday nights with his good friends out on the ice. He enjoyed and facilitated many years of boating, bonfires, corn and lobster boils, grass cutting, epic hide and seek games, flying kites and endless fun at family properties in Chester Basin and Gifford Island, Mahone Bay.
Bill earned his Journeyman Plumber Certificate and worked for W.A. Chaddock and Co. Ltd, Mechanical Contractors. He graduated from St. Mary’s University with a BA and Dalhousie University with a BEd and taught Communications for 30 years at the Nova Scotia Community College Akerley Campus. His student Andrew Tynes “Bubba” remained a dear friend throughout his life. Bill was an entrepreneur with business partner Bill Cooley and through their company Traditional Treats provided summer employment at Historic Properties for his children and many local youth. He was steadfast in giving to his community through years of service at St. Andrew’s United Church as an active Elder and member of the Board of Stewards, Treasurer of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts at Bethany United Church, on the Board of the St Cecilia Concert Series and on the Board of Governors of the MCM and Lifetime Member of the Maritime Conservatory of Music Alumnae Association (Bravura). His homemade fudge sales supported the QEII Foundation and MCPA Music Bursaries. He was Vice President for the Jollimore PTA . Bill made a big impact in his communities and gave freely with joy and purpose.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Daryl (Steeves) Chaddock, siblings Alan Chaddock and Kate Ashby-Craft and their families, children Monica Chaddock, Kirsten Chaddock (Stefan Scai), Charmaine Chaddock (David Moulton), Paul Chaddock (Bekki Chaddock) and grandchildren Arthur and Sterling Moulton, Bridgette, Lavina and Wesley Chaddock. Uncle Bill adored his nieces and nephews, close family friends, his students, colleagues and neighbours. He befriended everyone he met and always saw the best in people. Grandad considered the greatest achievement of his life, raising his family.
Bill is predeceased by his parents and his sister Carol Ann Bennett.
