HALL, William Roy "Bill" - Halifax, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, September 3, in Camp Hill Veterans Hospital, Halifax. Born in Bible Hill in 1924, Bill was the 7th child of the late William Chase and Violetta (Bell) Hall. Bill served in the air force during WWII, then studied accounting at Mount Allison University.
Bill met the love of his life, Betty Fillmore while working in Moncton and they married in 1950. Bill and Betty's 62 years of marriage were wonderful and resilient even after a severe illness in the mid 50s left Bill with a chronic disability.
Bill worked as an accountant in the provincial civil service and took great pleasure in his family in addition to singing hymns and old time songs, favourite games of cribbage and bridge, spending time at the family cottage on the Sunrise Trail, enjoying fresh strawberry shortcake and blueberry pie, and annual post-retirement forays to St. Pete's Beach, Florida as well as travel to the UK and Europe.
Bill's sense of humour, sweet disposition and sunny optimism were easily shared with all. Despite his many physical challenges he exhibited uncommon courage, rarely uttered a complaint, and was a true gentleman always.
Bill is survived by his wife Betty (Fillmore), children Stephen (Eliora) of Ottawa, Matthew of Halifax, and Linda Gourlay(Jim) of Cloverdale,NS; grandchildren, Alexia, Jonathan, Matthew, Gillian and Luke; step-grandchildren Michael and Colin Gourlay; great-grandchildren, Ray, Keisha, Ashley, Maija, Kaitlyn, Ariel, Mary and Dylan. Bill was predeceased by his 8 brothers and sisters, Hazel, Percy, Lorne, Margaret, Leta, Esther, Leon and Florence.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Camp Hill Veterans Hospital 4 Westwood for their extraordinary special care of Bill during the 8+ years he was resident, especially during the decline of the past year.
Bill's remains have been cremated. A memorial service will be held at J.A.
