

78, of Halifax, passed away on May 12, 2009, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, after a valiant fight with COPD. Bill was a son of the late H.R. St. Clair Jones and the late Gwendolyn S. Thompson (both of Halifax). Bill was predeceased by wife, Margaret (McDonald) and is survived by his wife, Janet (Jakeman); son, David (partner Darlene) and granddaughter, Maggie. Bill was predeceased by his sister, Thayer (Oliver Sharp) (of London, England) and survived by brothers, Edwin (wife Marlene) of Halifax and Derek (wife Suzanne) of Calgary. He also had stepchildren, Stuart MacLean (wife Charlotte and sons Mark and Scott), Dr. Scott MacLean (wife Cindy, son Alex, daughters Haley and Emma), Ian MacLean (partner Suzanne) of Edmonton, and Jill MacLean (son Jason and daughter Leslie). During his 30 year working career Bill was well-known wholesaling office supplies in Atlantic Canada. He served his industry as President of the Nova Scotia Office Products Association and was a member of the Canadian Office Products Association. After retirement he worked with the Chronicle Herald in the Advertising Department. He served his community in many capacities and notably was a member of the Burns Lodge No. 10 and a member of the Philae Temple (50 year Jewel). Over the years he was also a member of the Mayflower Curling Club, Ashburn Golf Club, and the Armdale Yacht Club. He lived a full life. As a young man he attended King's Edgehill in Windsor and QEHS. He loved participating in sports like football, sailing, boxing, and golf. In recent years he loved playing cards with his many friends, cooking - especially BBQ's, Queensland Beach, gardening, and supporting his grandchildren's many sporting events. Bill loved the Sun and most of all he loved his wife, Janet. His family will remember him as a gentle, kind, fun-loving man who always made everyone he was with feel special. As a family man he loved life, and those around him. He always looked at the bright side of any situation. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Bill's body will be cremated. His remains will be buried in St. Peter's Cemetery, Weymouth North. The funeral will be held in All Saints Cathedral, Tower Road, Halifax, on Saturday at 2 p.m. Visitation will be at the new J.A. Snow Funeral Home facility at 339 Lacewood Dr., Clayton Park, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9. A Masonic service will also be held at 6:30 p.m. in Snows Funeral Home.
