William Donald Poole

He is survived by best friend and long time companion, Marg Frier of Bridgewater; his children, Stephen (Maria), Laura, Murray (Kathy) Poole of Nova Scotia and Marjorie Watson of Ontario; also, ex wife and friend Aileen Poole and ex daughter-in-law, Susan Poole; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews and many friends over the years.

He was predeceased by his wife, Olive Rose (2001); son, Danny Poole (2007); parents, William Sylvester and Helene Poole; brother, Fred Poole and son-in-law, Sam Watson (2024)

Fairview was always the place Dad wanted to be. Bridgewater was also a second home to him. He drove taxi for over 50 years with Casino and he was an expert on Nova Scotia, he loved showing his customers the best of Halifax back in those years.

Dad started out working for his father at the age of 12 at Poole’s Bakery, he also owned his own bakery with Mom in Middleton, NS.

A staunch and proud member of Legion#142, he was part of the executive and committee. He founded the seniors club, was the bar chairman and involved in Special Olympics, the Swiss Air Disaster, and raised funds for an elevator at the legion. Over the years Dad won several awards for volunteering in the community.

He had many friends, too many to name over the years. He truly loved and appreciated the Historical Society and always had Fairview in his blood. We will always remember Dad with his guitar playing on Sunday mornings and he especially enjoyed playing his guitar with his friends.

He had many stories to tell to anyone interested in listening. We will miss Dad dearly, his sense of humour, and his love of family. He truly was an amazing father and friend.

Visitation will take place on Monday October 13 from 2-4pm and the service will be 10am Tuesday October 14 both in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Following the burial there will be a reception at the Fairview Legion Branch #142.
