Artie was born June 6, 1926, in Hamilton, Texas, to Walter and Clara (Pausewang) Krueger and was a graduate of Pottsville High School. In November 1947 she and Albert Peters, Jr., of Shive, Texas, were married. Albert preceded her in death as did infant son Alan Kent Peters and sister Walterene Krueger Peters. She is survived by daughters Marilynn Peters (Steven Moon) of Gahanna OH and Deborah Schuch of Woodland Hills CA as well as nieces and nephews.
Artie and Albert lived and worked for 73 years on a farm in Hamilton County, Texas. After Albert’s passing in 2021, Artie visited in California and resided in Ohio to be with her daughters.
In her youth Artie was organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville, Texas. Later she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shive and then of St. John Lutheran in Hamilton, Texas. In recent years she faithfully attended Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna, Ohio, largely virtually via the screen of the smart phone which she had eagerly learned to use at the age of 94. She also visited St. Luke Lutheran Church in Gahanna.
Artie expressed pride in the food-producing mission of agriculture and enjoyed “tending” animals. She baked many loaves of bread; cooked from scratch and the garden; and sewed Christmas, Easter, prom, and wedding dresses. During her last five years she continued to sew lined and tailored clothing.
Artie demonstrated humility and an eagerness to learn and to experience. During those final five years she toured sights including the Grand Canyon; Arches National Park; the Upper Peninsula of Michigan; Niagara Falls and Cooperstown, New York; Washington, D.C.; and Acadia National Park. She expressed awe at sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Until late November 2025 she participated three times a week in exercise classes at the Gahanna YMCA, where her younger classmates frequently declared her “an inspiration.” Photos have been uploaded to the Dignity Memorial website.
The family is grateful for the kindness of many friends and relatives in Texas, California, and Ohio during Artie’s final years and weeks and for the compassionate care provided in central Ohio by Mt. Carmel and St. Ann’s hospitals, Dr. Luu, and Zusman Hospice.
The family extends an invitation to viewing on Thursday January 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton, Texas. Graveside service and burial will follow at 2 p.m. the same day at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Shive, Texas. Pastor Aaron Kalbas of St. John Lutheran Church, Hamilton, Texas, will officiate.
