

She was born into a family of eight sisters and four brothers who grew up on the family farm near Rockwood.
On August 18, 1940 Bert was joined in marriage to Luther Wood at Ballinger, Texas. After World War II, Bert and Luther moved to Hamilton, Texas to start a business and begin their life together. During their years in Hamilton Bert was active in raising her family and many civic and community organizations. She was involved in the Order of Eastern Star, the Maude Shockley Art Club, the Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary, and many school activities. Bert was also a long standing member of the First United Methodist Church of Hamilton. Bert also worked for several business in Hamilton and also served as the Hamilton County Treasurer for thirteen years.
The most important thing in Bert's life was her love for her family. Not only the love for her husband and sons, but also for her brothers, sisters, in-laws and their families. She was always ready to help her family in anyway that she could and was always there for them.
Bert passed from this life on August 7, 2011 at the age of 90.
Bert was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Luther, and one son, Billy Michael Wood. She is also preceded in death by her parents and her four brothers and eight sisters.
Bert is survived by one son, Gary Wood and wife Julie of Gatesville, Texas. Three grandchildren, Michael Wood, Matthew Wood, and Elizabeth Wood. And one great grandson, Cason.
