It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bobby Joe Lee, age 82, on December 14, 2024. Bobby, affectionately known as Bobby Joe to his friends and Poppi to his grandchildren, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and zest for life.
Bobby Joe was born on May 7, 1942 in Hamilton, Texas and lived in Pottsville, Texas until sixth grade. His family then moved to Hamilton where he graduated from Hamilton High School in 1960. After graduation, he pursued higher education at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, where he studied Clinical Psychology and earned his Bachelor's of Science and Master's of Science degrees. While in college, he married his sweetheart, Linda Roberson Lee.
In 1967, Bobby Joe was drafted into the US Army where he served as a Clinical Psychologist for two years. During that time, he was stationed at Fort Polk, Fort Carson, and Joint Base San Antonio.
After his military service, Bobby Joe moved back to Hamilton and began his career as a Clinical Psychologist at Texas Youth Commission where he retired in 1995.
In retirement, Bobby Joe enjoyed his time researching genealogy, buying and selling items on eBay, collecting sports cards, drinking coffee in the cafe with friends, working at Agape Thrift Store, serving as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Evant, and cheering on the Evant Elks in any sport they were playing. He also had a great love for good food, always eager to discover new restaurants and share delicious meals with family and friends.
Bobby Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda Lee; his son Mike Lee and wife Megan of Glen Rose; his daughter Kim Lashombe and husband Tim of Haslet; and his grandchildren Landry Lashombe, Logan Lashombe, Tess Lee, and Joy Lee.
Bobby Joe was preceded in death by his father James Aubrey Lee, his mother Morine Lee, his sisters Dorothy Harris and Betty Goldfuss, his brother Larry Lee, and his grandson Jacob Lee.
To commemorate his remarkable life and the memories we cherish, a service will be held at First Baptist Church in Hamilton on Saturday, February 1 at 1:00 pm. We welcome all who knew him to join us in celebrating the life of a man who was loved deeply.
In lieu of flowers, our family requests scholarship donations to the Evant Heritage Foundation [ https://www.evantisd.org/page/evant-isd-heritage-foundation ] in memory of Jacob Brannon Lee.
Rest in peace, Bobby Joe Lee. Your memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you.
