Doris Charlene Broughton

(Doris) Charlene Broughton, age 78, passed peacefully Friday, August 2nd at her home in Hamilton, TX. She was born in Uniontown, KS on January 24, 1935. She was preceded in death by Wendell D. Broughton (husband), Thomas “Tom” A. Reeder (father), and Ilah “Polly” Irene Schull Reeder (mother). She is survived by her brother Roy Reeder (Uniontown), her four children, Margaret “Peggy” Taylor & Perry (spouse) (Denver, CO), Curtis Roy Broughton & Kathleen (spouse) (Hamilton), Robert Allen Broughton (Hamilton), and Russell Dee “Rusty” Broughton (El Paso), her eight grandchildren, and her seven great-grandchildren.

Charlene was raised on a family farm near Uniontown, KS and attended Uniontown High School. Upon getting married, they moved to El Paso, TX where they raised their family. After her husband’s death, she returned to Uniontown to be close to her mother and then moved to Hamilton a year ago to be near her family. Charlene was a homemaker, home childcare giver, an office-manager/bookkeeper at car dealerships in El Paso and Fort Scott, KS. She was a Lifetime Member of Texas PTA, a member of the Red Hat Society, and an avid gardener. Her real joy in life was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends was held Monday in Hamilton at the Riley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 on Thursday, August 8th at the First Baptist Church in Uniontown, KS, with burial services to follow at the Uniontown Cemetery.
