Douglas Wayne Sliger, 53 went to be with his Heavenly Father November 2, 2015 at 9:54 p.m. with his loving family by his side. He bravely lost a battle to a malignant brain tumor that he and his family fought for almost three years.
Funeral services were held on Friday November 6, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Hamilton with burial at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Doug was born July 21, 1962, in Hico, Tx to Houston Sliger & Rita Chapman Wilson. He moved to Winnie, Tx. He later moved to Carrolton, Tx from Winnie, Tx where he attended grade school. Doug moved to Energy, Tx where he attended Gustine School and later transferred to Hamilton where he graduated. He began working in the oil field right after graduation and soon went to offshore production where he worked for thirty-five years for various companies and through mergers finished with Anadarko Petroleum. He truly loved his work and coworkers. They were his offshore family.
Doug met Rena Darlene Massingill in 1986 and they were married on May 30, 1987. They spent eighteen years of wedded bliss before being blessed with a daughter, Presley Sinclair Sliger. She was the light in her daddy’s eyes. Doug & Rena shared over 28 wonderful years together before he went to his Heavenly Home.
When Doug married into the Massingill family, little did he know he would get the complete package. He and his sister & brother-in-law Tracy and Mason Bullard, bonded and acted like true siblings. Later came his nephews, Logan and Landon, who thought the world of their Uncle Doug. The feeling was mutual. Doug taught them so much. They would go off on trips and vacations together. Little did they know Doug was preparing them for their daily life’s challenges; they loved it.
Doug’s life was filled with his love for God, his family, and friends. He loved cooking outside on the grill summer and winter (rain or shine, it did not matter to him). He even taught his offshore cooks a few dishes. Doug took great pride in manicuring his home, yard, and garden. He had many talents. He could fix anything mechanical, electrical, or wooden, you name it he would try it. He loved doing things with his family and taking his daughter to see places and things. Vacations were some of his fondest memories. He was a 32nd Degree Mason at the Rockhouse Masonic Lodge #417. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, which he loved dearly.
