Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 1-2 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hamilton with Pastor Keith Reich officiating, with burial following in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Pottsville.
Ruth was born September 7, 1923 in the family home in Pottsville, Tx. She was the twelfth child of twelve children born to Herman and Theresa Zschiesche. She married Woodrow “Woody” Young September 19, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1990. Also preceding Ruth in death was a grandson, Clinton Young; her brothers, Herbert, Willie, Arnold (Buck), Norman, Edgar, and Charles; and her sisters, Ida (an infant), Julia Gromatzky, Anna Limmer, Sophie Hoffman, and Frieda Streger.
Ruth attended Christian Day School at Immanuel Lutheran in Pottsville and finished her schooling at Pottsville High School. She worked at the telephone office in Hamilton and later as a bookkeeper for the Garner Alvis Department Store. Ruth was a sheriff’s wife for twenty-one years. She and her family lived in the Hamilton County Jail for twelve years, where she cooked meals for the prisoners. Later she lived and worked at the Spotted Horse Inn and Restaurant. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and baking. She was a cancer survivor and was a caregiver her entire life.
She is survived by her children John Young and wife Glennetta, and Steve Young and wife Bobbie; grandchildren Jason Young, J.D. Young and wife Stacey, Brandon Young and wife Kylie, Jessica Purvis and husband Jeremy. She is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Jason Young, J.D. Young, Brandon Young, Jeremy Purvis, Derek Young, Dakota Young, Clay Young and Logan Young.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hamilton or the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Pottsville.
