

He leaves his former wife of 34 years, Bonnie (Bouquot) Rhoades; his Friend, Glenda Adams;his children, Matthew Rhoades, Cynthia Herman, and Brandon Rhoades; his six grandchildren and great grandchild; his two sisters, Virginia Knick and Barbara Phillips; his sister-in-law; and his many nieces and nephews.
Born in Dill Oklahoma, raised in Downey, California, the son of Homer and Ethel (McKnight) Rhoades.
Mr. Rhoades graduated from Downey High School in 1951. He joined the Navy in 1952 and served as a Gunner's mate on the aircraft carrier Oriskany, until 1956. He met his wife, Bonnie Bouquot, and they were married in 1955 at the Glendale Methodist Church.
After serving in the Navy, Mr. Rhoades began his career in construction. He worked as a superintendent/foreman building homes all around Southern California, He took great pride in every home he built. Through the years, he not only worked for other builders, but he also built eight custom homes for himself in his spare time. He loved the creative process of designing his homes and then bring them to life, this was his passion.
Mr. Rhoades also had a passion for animals. He cared for all types of animals throughout his life. They brought him such joy.
Mr. Rhoades was a very compassionate person. He taught his craft ( construction) to young me who needed guidance and those men became his lifelong friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 , 11:30 AM at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside,CA
