Roberto Martin Torrez

Roberto Martin Torrez, a man of great dignity, kindness, and wit, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the age of 74, in the loving arms of his adored wife Silvia. Born on April 30, 1950, in Belen, New Mexico, Roberto was the eldest child of Rosalia and Daniel Torrez. He grew up alongside his siblings: Alicia, William, Sandra, Annabelle, Daniel, Rosemarie, Michael, and Jose.

Roberto graduated from Barstow High School in 1968 and as a young man worked for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where his passion for technology and problem-solving blossomed. That experience laid the foundation for his successful lifelong career as a systems analyst in telecommunications.

Roberto was the epitome of style and dignity, not only in his impeccable wardrobe, but in the meticulous thought and care he gave to every aspect of his life. He had a talent for bringing light and laughter to those around him, whether through sharing a witty joke or telling a clever story with a humorous punchline. He was a natural teacher and mentor, Roberto was always willing to share life lessons and seize opportunities for teaching moments and took immense pride in his family.

Preceded in death by his father, Daniel; mother, Rosalia; brother, Daniel; sister, Sandra; and brother, Jose, Roberto’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who survive him. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Silvia of 25 years; daughters, Regina Torrez and Nuria Drum and husband Kenneth, whom Roberto considered to be one of his best friends; son Gabriel Torrez and wife Deseree; son Alberto “A.J.” Torrez; brothers William (Beth) and Michael; sisters Alicia, Annabelle (Michael), and Rosemarie; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A service honoring Roberto’s life will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, located at 505 E Mountain View St, Barstow, CA 92311.

• Rosary: 9:00 a.m.

• Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m.

Following the service, Roberto will be laid to rest at Mt. View Cemetery, 37067 Irwin Rd, Barstow, CA 92311, at 11:00 a.m.

A reception will follow at Los Domingo’s, located at 1520 E Main St, Barstow, CA 92311.
