On Sunday November 29th, 2020 Ruben Garcia Galindo, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at age 96. Born on October 13th, 1924 to Camilo Galindo & Petra Garcia, he was raised in El Grullo, Jalisco, the youngest of seven children. His mother died when he was very young so his older sister, Engracia Galindo, helped raise him. His devotion to her continued for the rest of her life. Ruben completed 6 years of education and attended the seminary, briefly, before migrating to the United States in the late 1940’s where he would find work, then love. Settling in Oxnard, CA while working at a packing house, Ruben met the young woman who would become the love of his life, Rachel Ordonez. This led to his most cherished memory of when he was accompanied by his friend’s father to properly ask Rachel’s father for her hand in marriage. Ruben & Rachel married in 1951. Over the course of 46 years together, they raised seven children. Ruben spent over 30 years driving for various trucking companies in the greater Los Angeles area. He retired as a Teamster Brother in 1986. This was an opportunity for them to start a new chapter in Hesperia, CA following the tragic death of their 17 year old son, Ralph Galindo, in 1980. In Hesperia, they enjoyed numerous adventures involving travel and creating life lasting friendships until Rachel’s death in 1997. The loss of his beloved wife never altered his undying devotion to his faith, his family, and his friends. This was exemplified by his helping hand, his presence for his grandkids’ sporting events & graduations, and his constant efforts for family gatherings. Ruben continued living a full life enjoying numerous trips extending from Las Vegas to Mexico to visit his nieces & nephews who saw him as a father figure. Whether it be his daily trips to McDonald’s for coffee with his friends, his weekly trips to the casino, or a fiesta he wasn’t invited to, he was the first one to arrive and the last one to leave. And you better believe if there was a mariachi he was singing his signature song, “El Rey.” His grito was authentic and you would feel it in your spine as the sound echoed across the room. Ruben was preceded in death by his wife Rachel, his son Ralph, his daughter Silvia, and son-in-law Reyes. He leaves behind his children: Petra (Pegi) Galindo, Ruben Jr & wife Angela Galindo, Rudy & wife Nadine Galindo, Raquel & husband Manuel Juarez, and Gina Munoz. In addition, he is survived by 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. His remembrance goes beyond this tremendous bloodline and is extended towards the countless lives he touched. Ruben died at home with his daughters by his side. Ruben’s zest for life and infectious heart and spirit will continue on through his family & friends.
