

Stein, Philip, on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, Philip Stein, affectionately known to all as Phil, got his lifelong wish to die peacefully and comfortably in his Malverne, New York home of over 60 years. Phil is survived by his devoted son David, David’s longtime girlfriend Barbara Pastore, his sister Roslyn Storch and by enumerable other loving nieces , nephews and cousins who all called him “Uncle”. Phil was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret (Margie) and his youngest son Jeffrey. Phil was a titan and legend of the women’s garment apparel industry, having founded such highly successful companies such as Allyson Frocks, Nassau Miss and Afterdark. Coupled with his entrepreneurial successes was Phil’s deep commitment to charitable and philanthropic causes, many of which were responsible for fostering the growth of Jewish culture on Long Island from Nassau County all the way out to the Hamptons. Such endeavors included being a founder of the Malverne Jewish Center, a co-founder of the Hamptons Synagogue and for many years one of the Journal Chairpersons for the incredibly successful Hamptons Synagogue’s annual fund raising events. Phil was also a staunch supporter of the State of Israel co-founding the Alan King Diagnostic Center in Jerusalem. Phil will be most remembered for his smile, the twinkle in his eye, his wit, his charm and infectious sense of humor. Funeral services for Phil will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Boulevard Riverside Chapel, 1450 Broadway, Hewlett, New York. Shivah will be observed at the home of David Stein, 70 Morris Avenue, Malverne, New York, from Sundown Saturday, September 20, 2014 until the morning of Wednesday, September 23, 2014.
