He was born on March 30, 1936, in Buffalo, West Virginia, to James and Mildred Swindler.
Alfred proudly served his country in the United States Army. He spent many years living in Sarasota, Florida, before relocating to Hammond in 2014. Throughout his life, he worked in various maintenance roles and was known for his strong work ethic and dependable nature.
In 1977, Alfred married the love of his life, Darlene, with whom he shared many years of companionship.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene; his children, Nancy Williams of Florida and Jodi Henriquez of Indiana; his stepchildren, Daniele Mitchell of Indiana and Charles Gillum of Maryland; as well as seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents and his six siblings.
He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and the quiet strength he carried throughout his life.
