Barbara E McDonald Nissen

Barbara E. Nissen (nee McDonald), age 85, of Hammond, IN passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015. She is survived by six children: Gini Lynn Hufnagel of Hammond, Lori (John) Young of Michigan, Lynda Hufnagel of Hammond, Kathy "Kalbac" Herman of Indianapolis, IN, Melinda (Tom) Santomieri of Virginia; one son, Gary (Cathy) Nissen of Florida; ten grandchildren: Andrew (Lisa) Young, Rev. Amy (Bruce) Thompson, Jennifer Ferguson, Jamie Nissen, Shannon (Eric) Spreitzer, Stephen Santomiere, Johnathan Young, Sara Ferguson, Seth (Pepper) Young, Ellen Young; ten great grandchildren. Mrs. Nissen was preceded in death by husbands: Andrew Hufnagel, Donald Nissen; son, Michael Hufnagel. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN with Pastor Amy Thompson and Pastor Brian Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home. Mrs. Nissen was a member of the Griffith Free Methodist Church. She was a retired Registered Nurse employed at LaSalle Steel in Hammond. Barbara was a former member of the Mother of Twins Club and a founder and member of L.C.A.R.C. of Indiana. She was also a former member of the Occupational Health Nurse Association. Barbara's love for her family was only surpassed by her love for God. Following in her Savior's footsteps, she was a servant to all, and her care and concern for others knew no bounds.
