Betty Shanner Hardin

Betty Shanner Hardin, born March 17,1937, lost her courageous battle with cancer on January 28, 2011. A beloved wife, mother and grandmother she leaves behind her a legacy of unconditional love for her family and friends. Born in Hammond and formerly of Griffith, IN , she spent her retirement in Silver Springs, FL and Decatur MI. Betty worked many years as a substitute teacher in Griffith schools and spent many active years in the GFWC in Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Thelma Shanner, sister Mary Jane (Shanner )Schnable, and a step grandson Ryan Graves. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Kenneth A. Hardin, sons Roger Hardin of Indianapolis and Michael (Denise Graves) Hardin of Crown Point, twin Sister Barbara( Allen) Conaway of Hobart, grandchildren Bradley, Jeremiah and Deanna Hardin who will miss their “Mama” deeply, along with along with step grandsons: Nolan and Garrett Graves, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feburary 1, 2011 at 11:30 AM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd.(2 blocks south of Ridge Rd.), Highland, Indiana, with Rev. David Kime, officiating. Interment at Memory Lane Cemetery, Schererville, Indiana. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 3-8 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent’s Hospice, Indianapolis, Indiana.
