Chester Szafasz

Chester Szafasz, age 75, of Griffith, passed away October 18, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley. Preceded in death by his daughter, Robin. Survived by three sons: Larry (Jennifer) Szafasz of Munster, Greg (Melissa) Szafasz of IL and Scott (Laura) Szafasz of Schererville; five grandchildren: Kristen, Katie, Brett, Ben and Jack; one brother, Richard (Mae) Szafasz of Griffith; two sisters: Irene Dumich of Highland and Alice Lummio of AZ; three sisters-in-law: Mary (Lou "Nick") Perko of Highland, Arlyne Celeski of AZ and Darlene (Lee) Smith of TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also preceded in death by his brother, Edwin; and two sisters: Doris Shaw and Florence Gogalak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 25, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, IN with Rev. Charles Niblick officiating. Burial at Catholic Cemeteries. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN. Chester was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. He was retired from Inland Steel after 30 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran.
