Donald Richard Barrell

March 12, 1936 - January 3, 2022

Schererville, Indiana - The family of Don Barrell is saddened to announce his passing on Monday, January 3, 2022 at the age of 85. Don was a generous and loving man and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Donald (Don) was born in Hammond, Indiana and was a US Army Veteran. After serving his country during the Korean War, he worked as a Bricklayer out of Local 4 until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed spending the winters in Florida and the summers in Indiana and loved visiting his family. He was also very active in his church, the First Baptist Church of Schererville, and enjoyed spreading The Gospel to all who would listen. He was also known to volunteer and help people in his church community and his neighbors with transportation, food, and repairs. He found joy in helping others.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Fern (Dagley) Barrell; his siblings, Myron, Elsie (Kearney), Paul, Evelyn (Junkens), and James.

He is survived by his son, Donald Jr. and his wife Lynette of Rensselaer Indiana , his son John and his wife Michele of LaPorte Indiana, and his daughter Michelle and her husband Patrick O’Connor of Sahuarita Arizona. Don is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The grandchildren are Jessica (Ian), Kirstyn (Cole), Jonathan, Zachary (Meghan), Abigail, Joseph, Stephen, Rebekah, Gabriel and Rylee; Great grandchildren: Nora, Bailey, Leah, Lottie, Colton and Wynnie.

A Public Visitation will be held for Don on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 11-1:00 pm with funeral services beginning at 1pm at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd, Highland, IN.
