

Frank R. “Iggy” Ignas, age 80, of Schererville, formerly of Hammond, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and grandson Eric by his side on October 19, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 33 years: Patricia(nee Mullen); eight children: Bill(Chris) Ignas, Ralph(Bev) Ignas, Joe(Laura) Ignas, Teri(Jimmy) Mayer, Leslie(Paul) McFarland, Joann(Terry) Vaughan, Brian Keller, and Larry(Tracy) Keller; 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; three brothers: Raymond(Rose) Ignas, Leonard(Theresa) Ignas, Larry (Rosa) Ignas; sisters: Lillian Dalhstrom and Irene(Joe) Urbanczyk; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Josephine and Walter; stepmother: Helen; brothers: John, Bob, and Rich; and sister: Carol. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Griffith Lutheran Church, 1000 N. Broad St., Griffith, IN, with Pastor Andrew Bailey, officiating. Interment at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 4-8 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd.(2 blocks south of Ridge Rd.), Highland, Indiana. American Legion Post 369 will hold services at 6:30 PM Friday evening. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday morning from 9-10 PM. Iggy was retired from Inland Steel after 31 years of service and was a member of the Inland 25 Year Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 369 in East Chicago. He owned and operated Iggy’s Pizza in East Chicago and belonged to Club Kiyouga. Iggy was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
