Gerrit J. Huitsing

Gerrit J. Huitsing, age 90, of Highland passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013. Gerrit is survived by three sons: Bob (Nan) of St. John, Jay (Roberta) of Griffith, and Dean (Terry) of St. Charles, MO; four daughters: Gloria (Jack) Caffrey of Orange Park, FL, Carol Huitsing of Maitland, FL, Dawn (Dave) Dick of Cedar Lake, and Marilee (Henry) Roukema of Wyoming, MI; two sisters-in-law: Sadie Huitsing and Betty Huitsing both of Highland; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Jeanette (nee Scheeringa); two brothers: Peter and Calvin Huitsing; and sister, Anna Mae Essenberg. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN at 10:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Dan Kuiper. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM. Gerrit was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Highland where he served many terms as an elder, on the money count team, and on numerous committees and on the Illiana Christian High School school board. He was retired from American Steel Foundries and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. Gerrit loved gardening, traveling and helping the Thrift Store.
