Henry Jacob Koehler

.Henry Jacob Koehler, age 97, of Hammond, IN, born October 17, 1918, passed away, February 17, 2016. He is survived by his stepchildren: Gerald S. (Joyce) Carlotta of Las Vegas, NV, John L. Carlotta of Lake Station, IN, Shirley (late Herman) Stevens of Manchester, KY, David (Sharon) Carlotta of Crown Point, IN and Donna (John) Francis of Highland, IN; several step grandchildren; step great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Wava A. Koehler; daughter, Janice L. Koehler; four sisters: Anne, Martha, Helen and Pauline; and one brother, Ray. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February, 20, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN with Pastor John Francis officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 10:00 a.m-12:00 Noon (time of service). Mr. Koehler retired from the East Chicago Fire Department with 22 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of American Legion Post #369 of East Chicago. He enjoyed bowling and weightlifting (Koehler’s Barbell Club). He was a member of the East Chicago Church of the Nazarene and was a 1937 graduate of East Chicago Washington High School.
