

Herbert A. Hoffman, age 76, of Highland, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosemary (nee Slamkowski); four children: Daniel (Lori) Hoffman of Kennesaw, GA, Julie (Mike) Baranowski of Dyer, IN, Janet (Mike) Hoffman of Lafayette, IN, and David Hoffman of Palm Harbor, FL; four grandchildren: Amy, Andrew, Lynn Hoffman and Rachel Baranowski; one great granddaughter, Lily Hoffman; one brother, Thomas (late Charlotte) Hoffman of Steger, IL; three brothers-in-law: John (Kathleen) Slamkowski of Highland, IN, Ed Slamkowski of Houlton, WI, and Tom (Terry) Slamkowski of South Bend, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hoffman was preceded in death by his parents: Herbert and Ella Hoffman; sister, Eleanor Holtz; and two brothers: Clem and George Seiter. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 500 Northgate Dr., Dyer, IN with Rev. Charles Niblick officiating. Cremation preceded the Memorial Mass. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Mr. Hoffman was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Superior Engineering in Hammond and was formerly employed at B.P. Amoco in Whiting. Mr. Hoffman was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Highland, IN. He was a guest lecturer at Purdue Calumet in Hammond and was a teacher at Michigan City High School. Mr. Hoffman was an avid Bear's fan and train lover. He also loved working around the house and in his yard. Herb was a quiet, caring man who will be greatly missed and remembered by many.
