Miguel "Mikey" Huerta Jr.

Mikey is the loving and brave son to Jessenia Maldonado and Miguel Huerta Sr.; strong and over protective brother to Armani Murillo and Ahneli Huerta; grandson, and little chunky warrior to Jesus and Maria Maldonado; Everardo Yanez and Silvia Huerta; and Ricardo Huerta; cherished nephew to many; beloved cousin to several.

Mikey defied all odds and proving many medical personnel wrong. His strong determination will always be remembered. Even at his weakest, he was still making his family laugh and his spirits were always high. His mother affectionately calls him her "sour patch kid". During his hospital stays, he could be grouchy to the staff, but a minute later be his normal "Angel" personality. Mikey especially enjoyed spending time with his large extended family and always having his buddy, and dog, Toby by his side. Even though his time with us was brief, many lives have been changed and affected by him. His lessons of never giving up, and staying so strong and positive through his journey. In honor of his memory, we will flex our biceps, and say "Lil Mikey Strong!". Your family loves you TOO MUCH!

Visitation will be Friday, March 10, 2023 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home. Those attending the visitation are encourage to wear any clothing with superheros. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Casimir Catholic Church (4340 S. Johnson Ave.; Hammond, IN 46327). Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given towards the family.
