She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Nellie Hoffman; her son, Troy Edwards; grandsons Troy Justin Edwards and Matthew Edwards; sister, Marjorie Pawl; and brothers Harold Hoffman and John Hoffman.
Nilah is lovingly remembered by her son, Scott (Kim) Edwards; daughters, Nancy Edwards and Sheila (Mike) Hughes; grandchildren, Michelle (Adam) Veld, Mikey Hughes, Zachary (Bailey) Edwards, and Mandi Dowgialo; and great-grandchildren, Korinne, Sawyer, Palmer, Mackenzie, Remington, and Haisley. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who cherished her dearly.
Nilah took joy in life’s simple pleasures—she loved the color orange, watching Fox News, and listening to country western music. Proud of her upbringing on the family farm, she fondly recalled running barefoot through the chicken coop and held tightly to those memories. Her greatest pride, however, was her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her world, and she poured endless love into every generation.
Nilah’s legacy of love, strength, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A visitation to celebrate Nilah’s life will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322, beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.KuiperFH.com for the Hoffman family.
