Roman J. Ortiz, age 82, of Crown Point, formerly of Highland, IN. Our beloved husband, dad and grandpa passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Victoria J. Ortiz; three sons: Dominic (Melissa) Ortiz of Valparaiso, IN, Mario "Todd" Ortiz of Wanatah, IN and Mark Ortiz of Highland, IN; daughter, Maria Ortiz of Crown Point, IN; four grandchildren: Rosendo, Collin, C.J. and Phoebe; seven brothers: Fr. Micheal Ortiz, Michael (Marcella) Ortiz, Anthony (Barbara) Ortiz, Louie (Mary) Ortiz, Thomas (Teresa) Ortiz, Edward (Hilda) Ortiz and Isaac (Virginia) Ortiz; three sisters: Lucy (late Salvator) Sendejas, Juanita (Vidal) Sendejas and Mary (Tony) Lopez; and sister in law, Anita Ortiz. Mr. Ortiz was preceded in death by his parents: Miguel and Petra Ortiz, two brothers: Aniceto and Augustine; and two sisters; Dolores Maurica and Maria Ortiz. A prayer service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10:15 a.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1 Wilhelm, Schererville, IN. with Rev. Martin Dobrzynski officiating. Interment will follow at St. Micheal Church Cemetery, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Friday, February 8, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home (prayer service 4:30 p.m.) Mr. Ortiz was a member of St. James Catholic Church of Highland, IN and retired from Inland Steel with 31 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post #369 of East Chicago, IN and the Griffith V.F.W. Post #9982.
