Elizabeth "Kalei" Kainoa Kupuna Losa, a beloved and cherished member of the community, peacefully passed away on December 27, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on September 22, 1936, in Hilea, Ka'u, Hawai'i, Kalei was known for her adventurous, compassionate, and kind-hearted spirit.
Kalei graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1954. Her life was marked by her devotion to her family and her inspirational work within her community. She was a devoted mother to her sons, Robert L. Flores of California, Raymond L. Flores of Hilo, Hawai'i, Richard L. Flores of California, Roland L. Flores of California, and Reuben L. Flores of California. She is also survived by her sisters, Salome Lily Lerma of Hilo, Hawai'i, Marcelina Gumapac of Honolulu, Hawai'i, and Emmaline Villanueva of Honolulu, Hawai'i. Kalei leaves behind three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Kalei was deeply engaged in her community. She worked with Native-Americans and established the Hawaiian Cultural Club in San Francisco. Her career included various government positions, where she worked alongside notable figures such as Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris. Kalei retired from the United States Postal Service in San Francisco, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and faithfulness.
Kalei's greatest calling was loving others—her family, friends, and even strangers—effortlessly reflecting her strength, faith, and aloha spirit. Her kind-hearted and generous nature touched the lives of many, making her an inspirational figure to all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church, located at 326 Desha Ave., Hilo, HI 96720, on February 14, 2026, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Kalei will be remembered for her devoted and faithful nature, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.
