Barbara Sue (McDowell) Chalker

Barbara Sue Chalker, a beloved resident of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, passed away on December 6, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on January 14, 1934, she was the cherished only child of the late Claude "Mack" and Sarah McDowell. Barbara was a graduate of Chattanooga High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, majoring in Spanish and Education from the University of Chattanooga.

Barbara was a selfless and hard-working individual, dedicating 37 years of her life to educating young minds as a public school educator in various schools throughout Hamilton County. Her resilience and thoughtfulness were evident in both her professional and personal life.

In 1958, she married John Chalker, and together they raised three sons. The family shared many joyful moments, particularly during their trips to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and Crossville, Tennessee.

Barbara had a passion for socializing with friends over coffee, a love for purchasing rental properties, and a keen interest in shopping. Her life was filled with vibrant activities and cherished relationships.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, John F. Chalker Jr and her parents, Claude M. and Sarah E. Hooper Chalker.

Here is continue Barbara's legacy are her sons, David Chalker, Chris (Dana) Chalker, and Mark (Amy) Chalker; and grandchildren, Haley Chalker, Dakota Chalker, Mark Chalker Jr, and Preston Chalker.

She will be laid to rest at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, TN with her beloved husband and parents.

The family extends special thanks to their extended family members, Emma and Shantelle, for their support and kindness during this time.

Barbara Sue Chalker will be remembered for her selflessness, dedication, and the love she shared with those around her.
