
Billie was raised in the Avondale and Eastdale areas, as well as the East Brainerd area. She graduated from Central High School in 1954.
Her husband, Horace L. Smith, Jr, was a well known attorney and judge in Hamilton County. Billie worked in his office from 1957 until he sold the practice and became a full time judge in Hamilton County General Sessions Court. They enjoyed spending time on the water fishing and skiing and generally enjoying lake life.
She attended Red Bank Baptist church, and was well known in her neighborhood and Homeowners Association, where she served as Secretary for several years.
Billie was joyfully met at Heaven's gate by her husband, H.L., who preceded her to it's glories in 2006. Also in attendance was her beloved parents, Robert R. McElhaney, Sr. (Bob) and Lucille Mooney McElhaney, her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Daphne McElhaney, and her nephew Rick McElhaney.
She is survived by her nephew, Rev. Thomas R. McElhaney (Patricia), and niece Renee Parnell (Garry) as well as other nieces and nephews.
Her life will be celebrated on Thursday morning, November 12 at 10:30 at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave in the Pavillion, with the service being officiated by Rev. Bill Harvey of Red Bank Baptist.
She is whole and happy today as she reunites with family and friends, and experiences the indescribable glories of being in the presence of the Lord.
