Carl served in the Vietnam War as a Master Sergeant, lived in many states and several countries during his 20 years of service, and was a stanch military man. He retired from his second career at General Electric Company after 17 years. Carl spent his retirement playing golf, fishing and volunteering with the Kentucky Chapter of Campers on Mission and Bethel Bible Village.
Carl’s smile, his laugh and his joyful heart impacted all who knew him. He was a daredevil who was ready for any adventure and had a handshake that could bring a grown man to his knees. He always had time to be genuinely interested in people, but never had time to waste when things needed to be done. His legacy of love and servant-heartedness will not be forgotten.
Carl loved God, his family and his country deeply, and is survived by his wife, Mary; brother James R. Muffett (Joyce); son James E. Muffett (Margot) of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; daughter Cheryl Fuqua (Ron), of Chattanooga, Tennessee; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was so proud that his children and grandchildren all came to know the Lord.
The family is receiving friends on Thursday, December 29, from 4-8 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, 5401 Hwy 153, Hixson, Tennessee. The service will be held on Friday, December 30 at 1 pm at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service with military honors at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family is especially grateful for the exceptional care and kindness that Hospice of Chattanooga showed Carl during his illness. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, Bethel Bible Village, or Student Statesmanship Institute, P.O. Box 80108, Lansing, MI 48908. Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
