

Mary Catherine Elliott was born on November 5, 1916 in Jackson, Tennessee to the late Charles Robert Elliott and Katie McClintock Elliott.
While attending the Katherine Gibbs School in Manhattan, NY, she was contacted by Robert S. Hellmann, also of Jackson, who was doing a medical internship in Patterson, NJ. They were married in Jackson, June, 1940.
Following World War II, where her husband served as a flight surgeon, they completed his anesthesia training in Boston and, then, settled in Chattanooga, where he became the fourth member of Anesthesiologists Associated.
She has been loved by many, through years of service in the Medical Auxiliary, Garden Club, PTA, Women in the Church, in her Spend-the-Day Club, and as a Changed Lives volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert S. Hellmann, Sr.; her three brothers, Robert Fletcher Elliott, James McClintock Elliott, and her youngest brother, Alexander Harrell Elliott, who preceded her by only twelve hours.
Catherine is survived by her two sons, Dr. Robert “Bob” Hellmann, Jr., and his wife, Diane of Lancing, TN, James E. “Jim” Hellmann and his wife, Joann of Chattanooga; and a daughter, Catherine H. White and her husband, Bob of Huntsville, AL; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the North Chapel.
Graveside services for Catherine will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Ben Haden officiating.
