

He and his wife Patricia Ann Dearing had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on August 1. He was a gifted multi-sport athlete excelling in high school playing basketball, football, tennis. After college he played semi-pro basketball and later loved to play golf. Upon graduating high school Pete attended one year at Ball State University and then served two years in the Navy.
Pete was employed by Container Corporation of America for 34 years and after retirement in 1988 started his own business, Dearing Packaging Products. CCA took him from Anderson, IN to Shelby NC and then to Chattanooga, TN in 1974.
Pete’s faith and commitment to serving his Lord Jesus Christ was his top priority in every aspect of his life. Pete joined Central Baptist Church of Woodmore in 1974, where he served as a deacon and chairman of the deacons. He joined Ridgedale Baptist Church in 1992 where he also served as a deacon. Pete served on the Bethel Bible Village Board of Directors for 34 years and Director of the Pat Boone Golf Tournament for many of those years. He also served with the Gideons in the Chattanooga North Camp.
Pete’s most cherished roles were as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family could always depend upon him to be their biggest supporter whether in academics, sports, music, dance, musicals or any other endeavors.
He is survived by his wife Patty; two children Beth Ann Wilson (Jim) of Chattanooga, TN, Dennis Dearing (Karen) of Franklin, TN; three grandchildren Dr. Matthew Wilson (Mary) New Bern, NC, Julianne Gray (David) Atlanta, GA and Micah Dearing Nashville, TN; three great grandchildren Caroline Wilson, Henry Wilson and Knox Wilson each of Lenoir City, TN: brother Ken Dearing (Barbara) Bradenton, FL; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday August 26, 2024 at 11:30 AM, at Ridgedale Baptist Church. 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 until 11:30 AM
Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.
