May 17th, 1940 - June 19th, 2020
Chattanooga, TN
Chong Min Wang, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Friday, June 19th, 2020. She was born May 17, 1940 in China.
Chong Min was a woman of amazing strength. Growing up in China, she learned to cook and care for her five siblings at a young age. When she became a school teacher, she offered the same care for her students, visiting them often and inviting them over for meals. She married her husband Lou Chen in 1965 and started a family, raising a daughter and a son. When the opportunity arose, she moved to America in 1994, first to Jacksonville, Florida, and then Chattanooga in 2000 in order to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Adapting to her new life in Tennessee, she engaged in a new venture of managing two restaurants alongside her husband. Despite her busy working life, she made her grandchildren a priority, insisting on attending as many events as possible and showering them with hand-knitted gifts and home-cooked meals. She served also as a grandmother and mother to others in her community, whether it be through her food, her conversation, or simply her presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son. She is survived by her husband, Lou, daughter, Jean, and son-in-law Daniel, three grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters. A private ceremony will take place at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make your contribution to Hospice of Chattanooga.
