During summers Doris taught in Spain and Mexico, living with families, and traveling throughout the countries. Traveling was always a passion for Doris. She traveled in Europe and visited Asia and North Africa. She also loved to travel in the United States, especially the Southwest.
Doris loved to read and felt lost without a book. She wrote short stories and poetry and loved movies and plays. She loved to sing and was delighted to attend her favorite opera, "Aida," at the Baths of Caracalla just outside of Rome.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Florence Butler, her beloved grandmother, Bertha Butler and her aunts Betty Fox and Irene Barnes and her beloved dog Sammy. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Butler Hartman who was also her full time caretaker during her long illness, her cousins and many lifelong friends.
