Dot was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 23, 1921, and then moved to Chattanooga. She also lived in Oklahoma and most of her life in California before moving back to Chattanooga in 1994. She was a graduate of Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. Dot retired from teaching in Orange County, California and was a member of the California Teachers Association. She was an active member of Calvary Church in Santa Ana, California and attended Chamberlain Memorial Baptist in Chattanooga.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Neighbors; her parents, Carl and Elizabeth Thompson and eight siblings.
She is survived by her three children, Jerry (Fran) Neighbors, Barbara Sue (James) Hammerton and Robert L. (Markey) Neighbors, III; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Friday and 10:30 to 11:30 AM on Saturday at the North Chapel.
Services for Dorothy will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday at the North Chapel with her nephew, Rev. Lynn Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
