

Elizabeth McDonald Close of Chattanooga, passed away May 3, 2017 at her residence. Elizabeth was born in Chattanooga and lived her early years in St. Elmo. She graduated from Chattanooga Valley High School and Kirkman Business School. Elizabeth’s life revolved around church and family. She was a faithful member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, the Runyan Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She showed her dedication by serving on different church committees. At home she enjoyed being with her family. Elizabeth often recalled with great joy and detail stories of her son, Don’s childhood and her grandsons, Travis and Todd’s many experiences in her care. Being a mother and grandmother were truly her favorite titles and roles in life. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and being outdoors. On July 12, 1946 she married Edward C. Close. She worked with her husband at the family business, Close Furniture Company, downtown Chattanooga. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nettie McDonald; husband, Edward C. Close; their infant son, Robert Edward Close; sister, Mary McDonald and her three brothers, James McDonald, Jr., Robert McDonald and Milton McDonald. Elizabeth was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, (Nanny) and great-grandmother. Survived by son, Don (Donna) Close of Signal Mountain; grandsons, Travis (Tina) Close of Signal Mountain, Todd (Becca) Close of Soddy-Daisy; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Ansley of Signal Mountain, Reid and Audrey Kate of Soddy-Daisy; niece, Beth (Kenneth) Snow; nephew, Tim (Janelle) McDonald and several great nieces and nephews. A special “thank you” is extended to care givers Ginger and Wayne Hoffman, Megan Reno for their years of loving care. Thank you also for the sitters from Alexian Home Care and Hospice of Chattanooga. Visitation will be Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 3 pm to 5 pm at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 2 pm at Chattanooga Memorial Park “Duck Pond”, Memorial Drive, Red Bank. Memorial contributions may be made to: Signal Crest United Methodist Church, Boy Scout Troop 116, 1005 Ridgeway Ave., Signal Mountain, Tennessee 37377 or a charity of your choice.
