

Elizabeth (Beth) Shoup Williams, 79, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, December 28. She was born in Milford, Delaware to the late Mae Case and Russell P. Hayes. Beth was preceded in death by husbands John D. Shoup and G. Chambers (Tad) Williams Jr., and by son Ryan F. Shoup. Beth is survived by children Pam Worley (Roy), David L. Shoup, Jennifer Bennett (Mark), Cynthia Smith (Mike), John P. Shoup, and Russell I. Shoup;daughter-in-law, Shara S. Shoup, as well as stepchildren Sharon (Sherry) Weaver (Roland), G. Chambers Williams III (Jayne), Karen Burdette (Ricky), Stephen Williams (Connie) and Roderick Williams (Karen), numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Jean H. Bracken, Beverly Ryland (Don), RuthAnne Griffith (Chuck), and aunt, Madeline Quillen. In her youth, Beth spent 10 years in the Houston, DE Cardinal 4-H Chapter, where she honed the baking skills that she shared with family and friends her entire life. After graduating with honors from Milford High School, Beth first worked as secretary to the Dir. of Engineering at Playtex, Inc. in Dover, DE. While in Dover, she also served as an officer of the Delaware Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. Later positions included posts with DuPont in Wilmington and Seaford, DE, Pilgrim Congregational Church in Chattanooga, and before retiring, 16 years as administrative assistant with Dick Miles and Associates, also in Chattanooga. Beth was a member of Hixson Methodist Church, and a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. She was also active in a number of organizations, lending her skills and gifts of organization. In the 1970s, she helped organize the Chattanooga Mothers of Twins Club and served on the board of the Chattanooga League of Women Voters. She was later a member and former President of the Chattanooga chapter of the Society of Professional Engineers Auxiliary. At the time of her death, Beth was on the boards of both the Hamilton County Republican Women and the Hosanna Community, serving each as recording secretary. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 2 from 12-2 PM, with service immediately following in the north chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Hosanna Community, 6410 Grubb Road, Hixson, TN 37343. Arrangements are held by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
