
James Edward Couch, age 90, of Hixson, TN passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014. James was born February 19, 1924 to the late James and Laura Baker Couch. He graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Chattanooga. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He worked for Norfolk-Southern Railroad for 39 years and was a member of the Hixson United Methodist Church. James had a love of music. He was a member of the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, participated in the Opera Association, and other musical events. He was an active member of the Historical Society and the Sons of the American Revolution, John Sevier Chapter. He was also a member of the Rossville Masonic Order, Alhambra Shrine, Chattanooga Woodworkers Club, Elder Scholars at UT Chattanooga, and the Chattanooga Engineers Club. His brother George W. Couch preceded him in death. His wife Betty Little Couch, of 71 years, survives him. He is also survived by two daughters, Linda Couch Conrad (James) and Sherry Annette Couch Hall. He has seven grandchildren, Jeanne Conrad Albertson (Toby) of IN, Melissa Conrad Andersen (R.K.Grant) of GA, Elisabeth Conrad Chiang (Johnny) of KY, Joshua A. Hall of KY, Rosannah Conrad Slone (Robert) of KY, Sarah Hall Slavey (Bill) of KY, Matthew D. Hall of KY and ten great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held at a later date. The burial will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McKamey Animal Shelter (2400 N. Access Road, Chattanooga, TN 37415) or a charity of your choice.
