Sonny was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from U.S. Pipe after 25 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge and the United States Army Band 129th.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Raymond, Robert, Ada and Willie Delashmitt, Grace Hicks, Irene Gass, and a grandson Jason Price.
Survivors are his wife, Maxine Delashmitt, daughters Brenda (Mickey) Crawley, Diane (Roy) Price, Debbie Delashmitt and a son, Jim (Tammie) Delashmitt all of Chattanooga; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 pm Sunday, July 8 and from 10 – 11:30 am Monday, July 9, at the North Chapel.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 am Monday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Martin and the Rev. Ron Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors.
