James was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church of Apison. He retired from C&P Enterprise where he worked as a Mig Welder. He also worked for himself as a house painter. He was an avid deer hunter, loved reading his bible, enjoyed watching birds, and was a member of the NRA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine P. Patterson , parents, Sheridan and Robbie Patterson, brothers, Boyd and Floyd Patterson; who were killed during WWII, and Winston Patterson, sisters, Louise Santoia, Lorraine Thompson, and Dorothy Altsman.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Brad) Williams, Betty Jo (Ricky) Motes, Boyd Patterson, and Wade (Adina) Patterson and 4 grandchildren.
There will be no formal services at this time. Burial will be in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens where he will be reunited with his wife. The family will have a Celebration of Life memorial service at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist North Chapel, 5401 Hwy 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
