Mrs. Geraghty was the widow of her beloved husband Thomas Edwin Geraghty. She was a member of Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Signal Mountain Tennessee.
Jeanne, a lifelong Republican, was a delegate to several Republican National Conventions and served as the National Committee woman from Tennessee under Chairman and former Tennessee Senator Bill Brock. She also served as Senator Brock’s Representative in both his Senate and Congressional offices.
On learning of Jeanne’s passing, Senator Brock said, “Few things give life more meaning than making a difference for someone else. Jeanne Geraghty’s commitment to active political involvement and her unstinting efforts to assist those countless individuals and families who came to her for help are ample evidence of a life of real meaning. She was a blessing to all of us who knew her.”
A deeply conscientious supporter of principled politicians, Jeanne was involved in many local and state wide campaigns. Her passion for travel led her to her final trip and followed her dream of visiting Antarctica with Sir Edmund Hillary while in her 70’s.
But Jeanne, affectionately known as "Gray," considered her family first. Her uncompromising love and devotion for Leah and Adele, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her undying support and love for husband Tom were remarkable.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents William and Eleanor Kirkpatrick of North Wales and a brother, Bill Kirkpatrick.
Survivors include daughters, Leah Mercer Geraghty and Adele Geraghty Castleberry (Rodger), both of Signal Mountain; grandchildren, Jeanne Saxton Merritt (Rusty) of Bend, Oregon and Thomas Marion Castleberry (Vara) of Brentwood, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Caitlin Gray and John Thomas Castleberry, Brentwood; Sister In Law, Joan Geraghty of Philadelphia, Pa. It was with great joy that she learned her granddaughter, Jeanne, will be delivering her third great grandchild this spring.
The family offers great thanks to Mrs. Viola Harman who helped make Jeanne’s final months happy.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 11 AM Friday, October 26 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church on Signal Mountain. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 AM at St. Timothy’s with burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
Following the burial, a remembrance reception will be held at the home of Adele and Rodger Castleberry.
Arrangements by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Hwy 153, Hixson, TN. 37343.
