John John.  I cannot believe you are gone.   Fast friends from when we met in Minnesota at the Mayo Clinic. Each year we would schedule our checkups together. The last one was tough.  I already miss bringing you PO Boy subs. Rest my friend.  Hope your heirloom goes to a good person. My condolences to your family. 

So very sorry to hear of the passing of one of my childhood playmates. We drifted apart during the High school years and I moved out of state and lost contact with almost all of the Glenroy Avenue gang.
Got his phone number from someone several years ago and met him one afternoon at Northgate Mall for lunch. Had an enjoyable time but never realized that this would be the last time that I would see him. Way to many lost years and time. I have fond memories of many hours playing catch in the street with him in front of his house. He was a character and they broke the mold after he was made. Rest in peace John you will definitely be missed.

John was my longest time patient since 1987 when I was an ER physician in th
North Park Hosp ER, and subsequently private practice in East Brainerd.  John was a serious, loving, caring person who always had encouraging words and an "up" attitude.  He was particularly hopeful ,with his recent illness and had the most praise worthy statements about his merciful care
 and his physicians both here and at the Mayo Clinic.  They all were very attentive to every need and symptom he expressed. The pulmonary condition that compromised him recently does play havoc with many people who have smoked cigaretts.  Fortunately, John is now without stress and he's enjoying the bright glory of our risen Savior, Jesus Christ who makes all of man's foibles perfect in His sight and He graciously lifts His creation out of the morass of evil to which His people are exposed. John is now perfect and in the reward line just waiting for his promised rewards.  God bless john althoff and is family......Terry Orme MD......

I was saddened to learn of John's passing, yet thankful to know his suffering was ended.  John was a fraternity brother and from '75 onward we stayed in touch, although I left Chattanooga many years ago.  John defined the word loyal.  After Dad's passing in '85 Mom lived alone in East Brainerd.  When John's UPS deliveries took him into her area he always found time to stop by and spend a few moments with her.  John never told me this; I learned from my mother's phone calls afterward.

My condolences to John's family, his friends, and his Sigma Chi brothers.  Rest in Peace, brother John.

Brother John will be missed by his Sigma Chi Fraternity Brothers. His memory will be fondly shared by a great many of us. May his soul rest in peace in the Chapter Eternal.

So sorry to hear. My brother Zac knows John from UPS. We last saw John at Siskin Fitness Center but haven't seen him in a while. We were just asking about him. John always brought a smile to our faces. He was so funny and had so many stories to tell. We'll miss him.

Even though we didn't get together often...every time we did (especially with our group of friends too) we all picked up where we left off...like we'd all seen one another the day before. We'll all miss him!

Sincere condolences from a former neighbor and childhood playmate.  It seems like only yesterday that we were all together on Glenroy.  I remember when Johnny was born and you & I, Celie, took your baby doll to show to my mother, telling her it was the new baby.

I miss talking to you already.  We became steadfast friends.  We talked about your fight with cancer and how you didn't give up, even though you knew how tough it would be the second time, but you stayed the course and beat it for the second time. You were there, always, in McGoo's corner, on his side, an honest and steadfast friend. You were the glue that kept a few connected over the years, always in touch.
